This commission was to design a contemporary house set within a vineyard which forms part of the Cotswolds AONB. We won planning permission through a combination of thoughtful design, a developed landscape strategy, sustainability, and innovation. The lower floor of the house is built into the ground and is clad in Cotswold stone, laid dry, in reference to the local dry stone walls. It houses the equipment for the vineyard, a wine store, sauna, and lift to the first floor. The upper floor houses the living accommodation and is constructed from a modular straw bale building system, clad in local timber. Heating will be provided via ground source heat pump connected to underfloor heating.
